Welcome to the Community Drug Coalition of Lea County’s web page. We are committed to reducing the problems of drug and alcohol abuse in our community. This website is designed to provide useful and important information, as well as updates on current issues and trends related to drugs and alcohol. It is our desire that this website will serve as a resource for you.
The Community Drug Coalition of Lea County is a 501 (c) 3, non-profit organization established in 2005 by local community leaders and private citizens to combat the growing drug problem in Hobbs and Lea County, New Mexico. The CDC began as a grass roots effort to combat drugs, and is comprised of a broad spectrum of community leaders, private citizens and volunteers. Funding sources include the City of Hobbs, the County of Lea, grants and private donations.
Our philosophy at the Community Drug Coalition of Lea County is to rally the citizens of Lea County to prevent and end the use of illegal drugs by implementing a three-prong approach of Prevention, Intervention and Treatment. Prevention will empower residents to live healthy lifestyles, Intervention will increase public safety, and Treatment will develop and maintain an effective treatment system to make our community a safe and healthy environment in which to raise our families.
Since its inception in 2005, the Community Drug Coalition of Lea County has made significant strides, and it is due in part to the strong partnerships with the community including the City of Hobbs, Lea County and Hobbs Municipal Schools. In December 2009, our Mentorship Program in the Hobbs Municipal Schools achieved its goal of recruiting 100 mentors. By January 2010, the CDC of Lea County sent 50 individuals to treatment. These accomplishments are just the beginning of our important work in Lea County. With continued support and significant involvement from the community and law enforcement, the CDC of Lea County will continue to make vast strides in the war against drugs.
We cannot do it without your help! Please join is in the fight against drug and alcohol abuse in our community. To volunteer to serve on one of our committees, please contact our office today!
